POLITICAL SCIENCE AND INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS MA PROGRAM

 

Academic Unit: Department of Political Science and International Relations

Program Objectives: This program is designed to train MA students in four main areas of Political Science (Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Theory and Turkish Politics) and the aim of the program is to equip MA students with the necessary tools to become productive academicians, who have a rich and multidimensional knowledge and make competent contributions to their field of study. In addition to these four main areas, students are also given the opportunity to specialize in regions such as the Middle East, Balkans and Europe. The program is in close relation with other disciplines such as History, Law, Economics, Philosophy and Sociology and opens doors for students to acquire a solid social science formation. MA students have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge on the field and to improve their research and academic skills. For many students, this is an important step for their careers in the private or public sector. This degree is also the basis for academic studies and students graduating from this program are eligible to apply to PhD programs.

Who can apply?

In-Field Quotas

Bachelor degree holders of Political Science and International Relations, International Relations, Political Sciences, Public Administration, Political Science and Public Administration, International Relations and Public Administration programs should apply to in-field applicant quotas.

Out-of-Field Quotas

Others should apply to out-of-field applicant quotas.

 

Graduation Requirements:

In order to graduate from the program, students are required;

  • to take at least 7 courses (21 local credits/ 120 ECTS), two of which are required by the department
  • to pass the “Seminar” and “Research Methods and Scientific Ethics” courses,
  • to pass all courses with at least CB grade and have at least 2.50/4.0 GPA,
  • to comply with the publication requirement,
  • to register to “Lecture on Specialized Field” and “MA Thesis” courses in order to write a thesis, after completing the required number of credits,
  • to pass the MA thesis defense successfully.

Publication Requirement:

MA students are required to meet at least one of the following requirements which has to be related to their thesis and done in cooperation with their thesis supervisor(s):

  1. An oral/ poster presentation at a national/ international refereed academic congress
  2. An academic article published or accepted for publication at a national/ international refereed academic journal
